When can a bumper be repaired vs replaced?

Full bumper replacement can generally be avoided if the damage fits these descriptions:

• Surface scratches: scrapes or scuffs that haven't penetrated deeply into the structure (plastic or metal)

• Plastic bumpers with minor dents: these can be reshaped with heat guns and specialized equipment

• Small cracks: can be fixed using a plastic welding technique

• Mounts are intact:  if fasteners, clips, and internal reinforcement bars are still fully secure

• Sensors are functioning properly:  if parking cameras and ADAS safety units located behind the bumper are still working normally and haven't been misaligned
